On the biggest shopping day of the year in China, Mother Shanghai opened its doors for Not For Sale, a night of art, social controversy, 90’s throwback music, and fierce creative independence.
The exhibit showcased 34 pieces of personal projects from over 28 years of Mother across the globe, on subjects ranging from public breastfeeding to English football failures to gay rights to traditional Chinese gift-giving.
Each piece is a commentary about a problem or issue, told in a fun, provocative and engaging way. Made to make people laugh, smile, and think about the world around them. And more importantly, made to do good in the world.
Above all, the show was a declaration. As Partners & ECDs Winson and Wanshi put it:
“Nothing you see here is for sale, just like Mother. Only by not being beholden to a public company or shareholders can we be a truly creative company, and free to make work we love with people we care about.”
