The Harvest Bowl

A bowl that carries rice, history and respect.
For Summer Solstice, Qiao Fu Da Yuan created The Harvest Bowl — a cultural artwork honouring Chinese farmers and 6,000 years of agricultural civilisation.
The project began with a simple observation: while many people recognise the quality of Wuchang rice, far fewer understand the generations of farming knowledge, agricultural wisdom and human labour behind it.
Created in collaboration with Mother Shanghai and the School of Design & Art at Jingdezhen Ceramic University, The Harvest Bowl traces the evolution of the Chinese rice bowl across six significant periods of history. Through gold repair, fragments inspired by different eras of ceramic craft, agricultural tools and farming knowledge are reunited into a single bowl that carries the story of Chinese agriculture across generations.
While the original The Harvest Bowl exists as an exhibition artwork, the project also extends into a limited collection of 200 individually numbered bowls. Each piece serves as a tribute to the generations of farmers whose labour and wisdom continue to shape everyday life in China.
At its core is a simple belief: hard work deserves to be seen, and wisdom deserves to be passed on.
